Clinical Hypnotherapy involves working with a safe and natural state of focused awareness, similar to becoming deeply absorbed in a book, film or daydream. You remain aware and in control throughout. Rather than “switching off”, many people describe feeling calmer, physically relaxed, or more aware of their thoughts, emotions and internal experiences.
Hypnotherapy is often thought of as something completely separate from talking therapy, but in practice the two naturally overlap. My background is in counselling and psychotherapy, so sessions tend to include reflective conversation, emotional exploration, nervous system awareness and hypnosis-based techniques, depending on what feels most supportive for you. Some sessions involve more talking and processing, while others may include guided relaxation, imagery or hypnotic work.
By combining therapeutic conversation with hypnosis, we can begin to work not only with conscious understanding, but also with the deeper emotional and behavioural patterns that can keep people feeling stuck. Hypnotherapy is collaborative work, and most impactful when you are an active, engaged participant, grounded in your goals, and arrive with a readiness for change.
First Session
Usually focused on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We'll explore your experiences, current difficulties, goals, patterns and strengths, while also discussing how hypnotherapy works and answering any questions you may have. If appropriate, we may also begin some gentle therapeutic or hypnosis-based work.
Future sessions
Tend to involve a blend of reflection, emotional processing and hypnotherapy techniques tailored to your needs. We may review what has come up since the previous session, notice patterns together and use hypnosis to support emotional regulation, build confidence, respond differently to challenges. Every person responds differently, so there is no rigid “one size fits all” approach. Therapy is a collaborative process and sessions are adapted to your pace, needs and goals.
